Apple will release the iPad 3 in February, according to a Citi analyst.
In a research note sent Thursday, Richard Gardner said "several sources"
indicated that Apple would launch its next-generation iOS tablet as
much as a month earlier than it released the iPad 2 in 2011.
The iPad 3's screen will boast double the resolution of the iPad 2's, according to Gardner, whose note was spotted by Business Insider.
"[T]here do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles
remaining" to releasing the next-generation tablet, the Citi analyst
wrote. Gardner also predicted that Apple's final iPad sales tally for
the fourth quarter of this year would be between 12 and 13 million
As a general rule, Apple likes to release new versions of its main
consumer hardware products about a year apart?there are exceptions, of
course, as when Apple released the iPhone 4S in October, nearly 16
months after making the iPhone 4 available on June 24, 2010.
