Google: Government Censorship request keep rising
 posted  June 18th 2012 at 8:48 AM

Google recently updated their "transparency reports" which shows how many times the government and private companies have requested to censor a search result. Not to anyone?s surprise the number is way up.

In the past month there have been:

1,246,713 URL's request to be deleted

24,129 Targeted Domains

1,296 Copyright owners

1,087 reporting organizations

Among those asking for takedowns, Microsoft is the leader, filing over 500,000 requests all by itself in the past month.

Sample censorship:

Censoring a video where a Canadian citizen creatively destroyed his passport (not complied with) to blogs promoting hate speech and violence (complied with).
