The Kineo
 posted  February 1st 2011 at 9:53 AM

Who knew the Florida Educational Technology Conference would be so exciting? During the show, Brainchild took the wraps off the 7-inch Kineo Android 2.1 Tablet for the primary and middle school set. It sports a resolution of 800 x 480 on the touchscreen (which works with a stylus or finger), but no word on whether it?s made of Gorilla Glass. Inside, is an 8000MHz dual-core processor and 2GB of on-board storage. The Kineo also offers a kickstand on the back, and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity. The front features a few more buttons than the average Android device with a line of A through D physical buttons along one side. For ports you get an HDMI port (for use with Smart Boards in classrooms), one USB, an SD Card Slot, and headphones. And Brainchild claims the battery will last up to 10 hours.

According to the company, Kineo is designed for classroom distribution, and it features security options to keep it that way, preventing students from accessing unapproved content. The only websites that it can access must be pre-approved in the settings, and only administrators can tell it which eBooks to install. Students can?t download or delete apps.

The device is scheduled to start shipping in March and will retail for $299.
